DESCRIPTION:Add-on experience for General Admission!\n\n\n\nDive into a hands-on experience suitable for all levels of curiosity with our squid dissections! Join our expert guides who will lead you through an exploration of anatomy and adaptations. Each dissection is 30 minutes long. \n\n\n\nEvery dissector requires their own ticket and may be accompanied by 1 additional person. Each dissector will receive their own squid to dissect. Note: Children under 18 months do not require their own ticket to accompany a dissector. \n\n\n\nDissections will occur at 10:30 am\, 11:30 am\, and 1:30 pm. \n\n\n\nAdd-on Price: $5 \n\n\n\nMust have a General Admission ticket to participate. These ships were known for their speed and were used for smuggling. The ship is 118 feet long with a rig height of 100 feet… and 5\,000 square feet of sail! \n\n\n\nIt was Dennis Holland’s dream to build an accurate replica from the period when America fought for independence. Armed with talent\, determination\, little money and plans he purchased from the Smithsonian Institution\, he laid the keel in his Orange County yard on May 2\, 1970. Thirteen years later\, this fast privateer was launched and continues to sail the ocean. Speakers present on a variety of topics ranging from ocean researchers\, ocean authors\, ocean artists\, and ocean athletes. \n\n\n\nLight snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase. Doors open at 5:30pm\, talk begins at 6:00pm. \n\n\n\nPricing:\n\n\n\n$10  – General \n\n\n\nFREE – Members \n\n\n\nFREE – Students (with Valid ID) \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Dawn\n\n\n\nDawn Wright (aka “Deepsea Dawn”) is Chief Scientist of the Environmental Systems Research Institute (aka “Esri”) and a professor of Geography and Oceanography at OSU\, where she has been on the faculty since 1995. Prior to joining the OSU faculty\, she was a seagoing marine technician for the international Ocean Drilling Program and a post-doctoral research associate at the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory in Newport\, Oregon. A few years after the deepsea vehicle Argo I was used to discover the wreck of the RMS Titanic in 1985\, Dawn was presented with some of the first geographic information system (GIS) data sets to be collected with that vehicle while a graduate student at UCSB. It was then that she first became acutely aware of the challenges of applying GIS to deep marine environments. She has since completed oceanographic fieldwork (oftentimes with GIS) in some of the most geologically-active regions on the planet\, including the East Pacific Rise\, the Mid-Atlantic Ridge\, the Juan de Fuca Ridge\, the Tonga Trench\, volcanoes under the Japan Sea and the Indian Ocean\, and American Samoa. Dawn is also an elected member of both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.
