Our Catalina Island Ecology Safari: Day program onboard our research vessel, the R/V Sea Explorer, provides an opportunity for students to explore the wonders of Catalina Island for the day. During this 10-hour program students will develop a unique perspective and gain in-depth knowledge of this popular Channel Island. On the way over students engage in educational activities like navigation and bathymetric mapping. Once we arrive at the island students will snorkel at the world-famous Blue Cavern. After, students will embark on a hike to investigate geologic history and plant classification on Catalina island. Our time on the island will wrap up with mudflat ecology and catch-and-release fishing make this program an action-packed island adventure!
