Your Experience

During our Human Impacts of Coastal Ecosystems Cruise aboard our research vessel, the R/V Sea Explorer, students will be introduced to our local birds and marine mammals that live near shore. Students will be able to make connections between what humans do on land and how it affects our coastal ecosystems. Students will collect a water sample to asses phytoplankton productivity, a benthic trawl to investigate the biogeography of benthic organisms, and a plankton sample to identify harmful algal blooms. The outcome of this cruise is directed towards empowering students to use their deeper knowledge of potential human impacts on the environment to advocate for our coastal ecosystems.
