About the San Juan Creek Estuary Restoration Project:
The San Juan Creek Estuary Restoration Project is a collaborative effort with the goal to restore and enhance the estuarine and riparian habitats supporting species native to the area, particularly the endangered steelhead trout. This goal will be accomplished by improving water quality, natural hydrology, and allowing complex habitat communities to thrive. This fieldwork is carried out and monitored by the SJCERP research team members and community-based participants. This three-year program began in early 2025 with South Coast Trout Unlimited in collaboration with a specialized engineering firm, Moffatt and Nichols, and several local, federal, and state agencies. The team encourages community members who frequent this treasured area of the Doheny State Park to keep an eye out for continued updates and to submit comments on observations made during their visits.
