Is your Girl Scout Troop looking for fun and educational badge-earning opportunities? Join us!

Ocean Institute has multiple programs designed to meet the qualifications necessary to earn badges. Check out some of these opportunities below! Want to book a program or find out more? Email fieldtrips@oceaninstitute.org with the subject “Girl Scout Programs”! Programs can be adjusted for higher level scouts. 

Outdoor Adventurer Maritime Badge program

Age Range: Brownies

Badge: Outdoor Adventurer

Group size: Up to 20 scouts and 5 chaperones

 Cost: $400.00

Step back in time to experience the life of a sailor! Explore all the aspects of being an outdoor adventurer while participating in historic, educational activities including: raising the sail, cargo rigging, and navigation activities. This program will meet with the necessary requirements to obtain the Outdoor Adventurer badge! 

Outdoor Adventurer Science Badge program

Age Range: Brownies

Badge: Outdoor Adventurer

Group size: Up to 20 scouts and 5 chaperones

 Cost: $400.00

 Explore the Dana Point Marine Protected Area and tidepools! This is a guided 1-mile tidepool hike to explore the local tidepool ecosystem and become a true outdoor adventurer. Instructors will introduce you to the organisms you meet along the way, as well as introduce the concepts of tides, tidepools, and marine protected areas. This program will meet the necessary requirements to obtain the Outdoor Adventurer badge! (Subject to availability due to changing tides)

 

Numbers in nature

Badge: Numbers in Nature

Group size: Up to 20 scouts and 5 chaperones

 Cost: $400.00

Explore numbers in nature by deep diving into Kelp Forests! In this program we will learn how to measure the temperature of water and how temperature changes in the ocean. We will explore the anatomy of kelp, how to measure its blades, and how it’s similar and different to plants on land. To plant our own garden, we will learn about artificial reefs and create our own off Ocean Institute’s dock to provide areas for new life to grow. This program will meet the necessary requirements to obtain the Numbers in Nature badge!
