Sepulveda will also highlight those fisheries that have made strides towards meeting sustainability goals and discuss areas where we, as consumers, need to help make a difference in conserving and promoting healthy fisheries. Sepulveda will also entertain questions and hopefully help lead a productive and informative dialog about our local resources and how they are currently managed.

About Chugey Sepulveda
Chugey Sepulveda is the director of research and education at the Pfleger Institute of Environmental Research (PIER) in Oceanside, California. PIER is a non-profit research institute dedicated to the advancement of sustainable fisheries management through applied field research and public education. Sepulveda is a California native that has spent all of his adult life working on or near the water. He has a Masters degree from Cal State Fullerton and he received his PhD from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 2005. As a fisherman and scientist, Sepulveda is interested in pelagic fish movement patterns, ecology and sustainable fishery development. At PIER, he has studied the physiology of open ocean fish in an effort to develop alternative fishing gear. In addition to this, he has worked to improve the management of impacted Southern California species such as White Seabass. Sepulveda has a long history working collaboratively with fishermen, researchers and managers to address resource concerns and bycatch issues in current day fisheries. Everyday his work proves how science is being used to protect fisheries and the species they depend on.
