Ocean Institute Homeschool day

This special weekday event is designed for homeschool families looking for an amazing field trip!

This event will be similar to our weekend general admission hours, but with even more educational activities! Your ticket includes access to the following activities:

• Marine Mammal Characteristics: check out our amazing collection of marine mammal artifacts and learn what makes a marine mammal a mammal!
• Plankton Identification: using our microscopes, learn all about plankton and their fascinating life cycles!
• Build a Cow: using our amazing gray whale skeleton Graysea for reference, see if you can put together the skeleton of a land mammal!
• Storytime: Join us for educational story time with some of your favorite ocean stories!
• Scrimshaw: Learn about the history of whaling and make your own scrimshaw carving!
• Jaw Exploration: see our fearsome collection of fish and shark jaws and learn about the feeding strategies of different sea creatures!
• Discovery Pool: come say hello to our sea stars, urchins, and snails in our Discovery Pool touch tank!
• Sailor’s Life Tours: Step aboard our historic tall ship, the Spirit of Dana Point, and learn about the life of a sailor in the 1800s!
• And much more!

There will also be fish dissection and beach cleanup activites available for an additional fee.
