Marine Inventory & Collection Enhancement

Join the Ocean Institute over the course of 3 months for our Marine Inventory & Collection Enchacement program onboard our Research Vessel the Sea Explorer.

This program is available for high school (14yo +) and college students to learn first-hand about the importance of research at sea and monitoring our local marine life through inventory and sampling.

Students will get the opportunity to assist in deploying oceanographic research equipment, learn methods of sampling and recording data for cataloging. Participants will also partake in marine collections, learn to identify coastal marine life, and get hands on experience on a research vessel.

Students who attend all 3 sessions will receive a certificate of completion from the Ocean Institute.

Requirements:

14yo +

Must be currently enrolled in school

Comfortable on stationary boat

Able to attend all 3 programs

Price:

$200/per person for all 3 dates below

Covid Policies

Staff and participants must wear face masks. Ocean Institute has increased the frequency of sanitation on public surfaces – door handles, restrooms, etc. Restrooms are available on-site at the Ocean Institute prior to the cruise and upon request on the vessel. These areas will be disinfected before, during, and after use. There will be access to hand sanitizer and hand-washing stations.

The heath and safety of our guests, staff, and volunteers is and always has been of utmost importance to the Ocean Institute. We are constantly assessing the status of the State and the Orange County’s public health guidelines and making decisions related to the most up to date information from the center for disease control and OC Department of Health.
