FORTIFY THE SEA EXPLORER FOR THE FUTURE!
Ocean Institute is seeking funding to paint our iconic and important educational tool, the Research Vessel Sea Explorer. It has been 20 years since her last touch-up, and her exterior is now chipping. This exposure can cause deeper problems within her structure when exposed to seawater. To maintain the integrity of her hull and to ensure she continues to pass the United States Coast Guard Inspections, we are asking you to support a new coat of paint!
R/V Sea Explorer Impact: 26,000 passengers annually!
Field Trips, Summer Camp, Girls in Ocean Science Conferences, Intern Program Cruises, Stoked on Science Cruises, Public Marine Mammal Cruises, Parade of Lights, Harbor Hayrides, Maritime Fest Cannon Battles, and more!
Amount Needed: $110,000

FORTIFY THE FUTURE
A Message from Mel, a long-time supporter and former Board Member.
Dear Neighbor,
As you may know, I am a long-time supporter and former Board Member of the Ocean Institute. The organization became very special to me as their mission focuses on educating children through real-world, hands-on learning experiences. Their school field trips are particularly powerful because students, many of whom have never even seen the ocean before, are able to engage in research activities on the water on the R/V Sea Explorer. These learning experiences are unique, memorable, and are often the key moment that ignites an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
In addition to using the Sea Explorer for school field trips, the Ocean Institute engages the public in whale watching cruises on the weekends. The revenue from these cruises helps offset the costs of operations. Which allows for the Ocean Institute to keep their programing affordable for the students.
Although the Ocean Institute team and Sea Explorer provide an unforgettable experience to students and families alike, the vessel is in dire need of an exterior paint job. The current condition is not only an eyesore, but it is incongruous with the quality of the experiences that Ocean Institute provides. As Ocean Institute aims to increase participation in their educational programming and public cruises, engaging the community and visitors to support their earned revenue, Linda and I have committed to helping elevate the look with a new paint job. We are committing $20K and hope that you will join us.
We hope you will join us in supporting our non-profit neighbor!
With Appreciation,
Mel and Linda Chambers
