Week 10: A Deep Dive Into Aquascaping
See a teaser for week 10, watch Wednesday’s video!
In today’s lesson, Outdoor Education Instructor Elizabeth will demonstrate the important steps an aquarist follows when introducing a new resident to their collection. Learn to identify a new animal, aquascape a tank to resemble their natural habitat, and observe the animal adjusting to their new tank. Afterward, imagine you are an aquarist and experiment by building your very own cereal box aquarium. What animals would your aquarium house? How would you design it? See below for instructions on how to build your very own aquarium!

Week 9: A Deep Dive Into Underwater Archaeology

What is underwater archaeology? Underwater archaeology is a specific type of archaeology that recovers information about the human past through artifacts and sites found underwater. The first things that comes to mind when discussing underwater archaeology are underwater shipwrecks, gold coins, and “treasure hunting.” It is so much more than “treasure hunting.” Underwater archaeology, or maritime archaeology, studies people and their activities on or near the sea. This includes shipwrecks, submerged settlements, and buildings in and around coastal areas.

Meet Science Instructor, Robyn Takeshita, who will be leading us as we learn about the kelp forest and coral reef ecosystems. Discover the abiotic (non-living) factors that set apart these marine ecosystems. Learn how keystone species, such as the sea otter and parrot fish, help maintain a balanced ecosystem. With this new knowledge, you will be able to build your own balanced ecosystem at home!
