Ocean Institute Seaside Academy

Let us bridge the gap this coming school year with our Seaside Academy! Ocean Institute will offer full-day, academic support to families this fall. We will help students complete their schoolwork and offer experience and activities that will enhance your child’s education with the engaging and inspiring resources that we have offered our community for over 40 years.

Sample Schedule:

7:15am – 8:00am – Check-in /reading /journaling/ free time
8:00am – 8:30am – Welcome!
8:30am – 12:00pm – School work
12:00pm – 1:00pm – Lunch & Team building
1:00pm – 4:00pm – Ocean Institute Programming
4:00pm – 5:00pm – Check-out/ reading/ journaling/free time

(Not in session November 23-Nov 27 for Thanksgiving week)

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is lunch provided?
No, each student is responsible for bringing a lunch, snacks and water each day. We have water bottle refill stations

How many students will be in each room?
10 students each room.

Can they we grouped with friends?
We will try our best, but we cannot guarantee. We are trying to place students in same grades, districts, schools and classes together.

What if my students is PM class not AM?
Students will be in rooms with like schedules so we can modify the day.

Do students have to stay all day?
No, you can drop off and pick up your kids according to your schedule. Please note, the price will not change for a shortened schedule.

Do they have a desk?
Yes, students will each have a designated work station to complete their school work.

What does my student need to bring?
Laptop
Headphones
Face mask
School work for the day or week
Lunch, Snacks, Water
Full list will be sent prior to start date

How many groups will be on campus at a time?
7 (With 10 students per group)

How does Ocean Institute know what is due in my students school work?
We will have a weekly calendar that can be filled out for each student.

What are you doing with recognized school holidays?
We will be closed in alignment with school holidays. *full list will be sent prior to start date.

Is there a sibling discount offered?
No, there is no sibling discount.

Which Ocean Institute Membership applies a discount?
Sea Star Members and above can receive the member discount.

When the kids are outside playing, are they required to wear a mask?
When outside and can socially distance more than 6ft they are allowed to remove their mask.

If we have a doctor’s note instructing not to wear a mask, will they still be permitted?
No. At this moment all students must wear a mask when inside.

What types of activities are offered each afternoon
We offer a variety of activities from dissections, to touching live animals, tying knots, driving ROV, chemical experiments, raising sails, identifying native plants, etc. It really depends on the age group and how long they will be joining us. Each week has a different theme across the entire 12 weeks.

How many instructors are there per group of 10 kids?
10:1 in each room.

Covid Policies

Staff and participants must wear face masks. Ocean Institute has increased the frequency of sanitation on public surfaces – door handles, restrooms, etc. Restrooms are available on-site at the Ocean Institute prior to the cruise and upon request on the vessel. These areas will be disinfected before, during, and after use. There will be access to hand sanitizer and hand-washing stations.

The heath and safety of our guests, staff, and volunteers is and always has been of utmost importance to the Ocean Institute. We are constantly assessing the status of the State and the Orange County’s public health guidelines and making decisions related to the most up to date information from the center for disease control and OC Department of Health.

Sea Star Member codes must be applied at check out
A 3% booking fee will be added to all reservations
